Perfectionism – are you letting the demon ruin YOUR life?

We all want to get it right…..that’s human nature - but have you ever wondered how all this striving to do it perfectly may be affecting your life? Having a perfectionist mentality may be the one thing that is keeping you from what you want!
I have to do it PERFECTLY
Whatever you want to achieve in life takes some effort. We all get that....right? But what if you’re so caught up in being perfect that you never achieve your true potential; that you become too scared to try anything in case you fail? Do you spend all of your energy comparing yourself unfavorably with other people? If so, it’s really important that you realise how damaging this can be.
Guess what happens when you refuse to play the ‘trying game’? You never get anything done! Are you stuck in limbo-land because you’re afraid of failing? If so, I must remind you that we learn by doing...you will never get it right until you are willing to be vulnerable enough to say: ‘Okay, I don’t know everything about this but I’m willing to give it a go’
Once upon a time, I was a hypnotherapy graduate. When my first ever weight loss client called me to make an appointment, I had two choices. I could have said ‘sorry, I’ve never treated anyone for weight loss before, you’ll have to call someone who knows what they’re doing’, or I could have said: ‘Yes, when would you like to come in?’ I cannot deny that choosing the second option was scary...but it also taught me more about weight loss and people in general than any text book ever could.
While we’re on the subject of weight loss, let’s use that as an example – If you have a goal weight that for you is the ‘be all and end all’, and you feel that you can’t possibly be happy until you get to that perfect weight, then you are setting yourself up for a fall. You’ll spend so much time obsessing over your ‘horrible thighs’ or your ‘fat stomach’, that you’ll forget the whole point to life – actually living it! The key to reaching your goals is to be happy with what you have right now.

It’s OK for others to be imperfect but NOT me
Many of my clients who are unhappy with their bodies tell me that they know other people who are the same build as them, if not bigger....and that THEY look great! So why then, do YOU have to be a stick insect? The answer lies in your own self esteem.
When we have that little perfectionist part of us continually punishing us and telling us our body /job/personality is not acceptable, then we stay trapped in that continuous cycle of self hatred.
It’s all about easing up on yourself. Would never be as harsh or as judgmental on others as you are on yourself? Nobody is perfect – everyone has something they don’t like about themselves, but the key is not to let this take over your life. Whether you don’t like your body, your job or your life in general, the best way to stay exactly where you are is to continue beating yourself up about what and who you are right now. Self-loathing doesn’t work; it’s never worked and it never will!
You are a significant, unique and wonderful human being who has the right to enjoy life while you are on this planet. Start being kind to yourself and you will find that those little things you thought mattered so much will gradually fade out of your awareness. With that little perfectionist demon out of the way, your success will become not only possible, but very probable!

I have to do it NOW
One of the biggest roadblocks the perfectionist suffers is the ‘I want it NOW’ syndrome. For everything we want in life, there is its opposite. The perfectionist continually focuses on what is missing in his or her experience, and therefore gets even more of that feeling of lack. So if I were you, what would I do? Well, if I told you to ‘just relax and let it happen naturally’ you’d probably want to clock me one, so instead I’ll say this:
The next time you catch yourself fretting about the fact that you haven’t yet gotten what you want, say to yourself:
'It doesn’t have to happen tomorrow'
We spend so much of our time caught up in the perceived future or the past that we forget about the ‘now’. So make your ‘now’ matter, because in the end, this moment is all you really have. What is in your life right now that you are grateful for? Whenever you find yourself frustrated about your unfulfilled desires, instead focus on the good in your life right now. This has the effect of raising your vibrational frequency so that you are aligned with what you want, NOT what you don’t want.
So make it easy on yourself....relax and trust that the Universe IS friendly. Claim your share, because if you don't then someone else will!
If I don’t get it right the first time the world will end
So you have a dream and you’ve worked out exactly how it’s going to happen....what if it doesn’t work?
These 5 words are the difference between success and failure – we all have doubts and fears, but it’s our ability to move through our fears that enables us to succeed. So if you think that you have to do everything perfectly the first time, think again! It’s practise and tweaking that are a part of the whole process. Be willing to move through obstacles rather than have them move through you.
Life is a process, and so are your individual goals....in fact, our goals are continually changing. The most successful people in the world have been willing to make mistakes and learn from these mistakes – nobody gets it right the first time. Once you accept this, you will be able to take the pressure off yourself and enjoy the process of creating your ideal life.
