Create The Body you Want by Loving The One you Have

July 2006

Hi and Welcome to Issue #011 of Success Express!

Today I'm going to explain why loving your body as it is now is the key to successful weight control.

Do You Beat Yourself Up?

If you’re overweight and hate yourself for being that way, then you’re not alone. Many people who come to see me for weight loss are having a daily internal punch-up with themselves. Here are some of the abominable statements of self-hatred I hear:

  • I feel sick when I look in the mirror

  • I hate myself for being pathetic and weak

  • I am ugly and unlovable

  • I don’t deserve to be happy

  • Sound familiar?

Whatever gave us the impression that in order to do better, we must first make ourselves feel worse? Unfortunately these kinds of negative statements do a lot of damage to our self-esteem. But what if you could learn to be happy with what you have right now? Imagine more pressure!

Ok...I know it sounds a little far fetched - after all, if you could just lose that couple of extra kilos you'd be happy - right? Well, not see it really all depends on how you feel about yourself. If you have low self esteem, chances are that even if you looked like Elle MacPherson you still wouldn't be happy!

So what's the solution? We need to ask ourselves what feeling we think being 'the right weight' will give us, and then take steps to generate that feeling within ourselves on a day to day basis. For example, if you believe that reaching your ideal weight would help you to feel more confident, then you need to concentrate on cultivating that feeling of confidence and self reliance today.

Your physical weight is simply a by-product of your emotional state. Get your emotions sorted out, and you won't have to struggle any more. Have you ever heard the expression 'a watched pot never boils?' Well it's the same with your weight. Once you take the focus off having to be perfect, you will release the pressure valve and the excess weight will simply melt away!

    It’s Never About the Food

If you are overweight because you eat when you’re not hungry, then it’s very likely that you are eating in order to deal with some kind of negative emotion – some common examples are stress, anger or loneliness. By engaging in non-hungry eating you are literally ‘stuffing’ those negative emotions back down so that you don’t have to deal with them. Becoming aware of this habit is the first step to creating the body you want.

What about if you don’t have a problem with food but can’t get motivated to exercise? In many cases, lack of motivation is also anxiety based. If you can't bring yourself to get to the gym, ask yourself: 'What load am I carrying on my shoulders? What do I need to let go of in order to get moving again?'

Your subconscious mind is always trying to protect you in some way. In order to change your behaviour, you need to show it some other positive way to deal with these negative emotions. It may be that you need to let go of past hurts or resentments, or learn healthier ways to deal with the stresses in your daily life. The good news is, that this can be achieved very effectively with hypnosis!

Time to Get Off that Rollercoaster

Here’s how the story goes for many people:

You start out on Monday with the best intentions. You are determined to stick to your new healthy eating regimen. You make yourself a low fat, nutritional breakfast, and you feel fantastic! You get to work and go about your normal day, and then about mid-morning, you’re feeling a little peckish – so you take out that healthy snack you packed in your bag and you enjoy this....going well so far. You feel proud of yourself!

Then, about 11.30, it all goes sour....the boss hauls you over the coals for not getting that report in on time, and you feel like crap. You slink back to your office with your tail between your legs, feeling very sorry for yourself. A couple of the others are going to the local restaurant for lunch – what the hell, you may as well join them. A couple of tiny drinks won’t hurt and after all, you Do need cheering up....right??

The afternoon goes by and a chicken schnitzel that covers the whole plate and a whole lot of fries later, you’ve blown it. No point in trying any more. You’re a failure why not just keep going and then start the ‘diet’ next Monday?

....and there you are on that rollercoaster again.....the one that sends you screaming towards self-loathing at lightning speed. Is it really worth it???

    Love The One You’re With

The ‘rollercoaster’ I’m talking about is that part of you that wants to punish you. It says: ‘I’m going to make you overeat so that you put on weight and hate yourself even more.’

But it doesn’t have to be that way, and the first step is to learn to create a healthy self-image and body image. When you learn to love your body as it is right now, you create a ripple affect across every single cell in your body. Did you know that your body loves you and is always working for you? Think about the way you behave towards your body....would you continually chastise and berate your best friend? If not, then why do you believe YOU deserve to be treated with such disdain?

Make friends with your body and with yourself, and you will be able to get off the rollercoaster for good. Healthy self esteem is vital to a healthy and balanced life, so sort out your body image first and the weight will melt off. Your body will metabolise much more efficiently, and there won’t be that voice in your head telling you to 'be naughty' every day. Make your self esteem your number one priority today!
