Hi and Welcome to Issue #019 of Success Express!

Easy enough question to answer? Well, for many people it isn’t. Why is this the case? The reasons are varied, but if you’ve found yourself in a rut lately, then here are some tips to help you through it...and it all starts with knowing yourself.

I Have No Idea

Many of us don’t actually KNOW what we want...we only know that we want to be happy. But what exactly is this thing called 'happiness', and how will you feel when you get it? If you're feeling like you're stuck in a mental fog, it can be really hard to decide what you want for breakfast, let alone what you want out of life!

Many clients who come to me tell me that they feel stuck, and that they have no idea how to become unstuck again! There are many things that contribute to this feeling, and they nearly always have anxiety at their root. For example, being involved in an unhappy relationship can sap a lot of your energy, and you may find yourself feeling listless and unmotivated for no apparent reason – this is usually your subconscious mind tapping you on the shoulder and saying ‘hey, aren’t you going to do something about this??’

Other contributing factors to feelings of listlessness and procrastination are the impact of past hurts and resentments that you may have experienced in your life. If you have been hurt by someone in the past (and let’s face it, haven’t we all?), then it’s important to reconcile your feelings and move on. If you don’t, this keeps on adding to the ‘fog’ in your mind until it becomes so thick you can’t see. Is there anyone you need to forgive? Let it go, let is past and move on.

I only Know what I DON’T Want!

We’re all great at noticing the things that displease us aren’t we? It’s partly conditioning and it can be a dangerous habit to get into. Sometimes it can feel good to have a good whine with a friend, and get some grievances off our chests – for example, the inconsiderate driver who cut us off this morning, the surly shop assistant who served us yesterday...you get my drift?

Little hiccups in life can be really annoying, but focusing on these things only brings more of what you don’t want to you. The law of attraction states simply that ‘like attracts like’. In simplest terms, you get what you think about....regardless of whether you want it or not.

So now that you know this, it’s time to get serious about what you want. Do you want more money? Then don’t fall into the trap of saying ‘I don’t want to be poor’. Do you want to meet a nice partner who will treat you well? If so, watch what you say!! The next time you hear yourself saying ‘I always seem to meet losers’, STOP!! You are literally inviting all of the losers on the planet to park themselves outside your doorstep. (Okay....maybe I’m being a bit melodramatic, but you get what I’m saying don’t you?)

I Know what I want....but I don’t think I can have it

From birth until about the age of 8 years, we don’t have access to critical analytical thinking – this is the part of us that can analyse, compare and contrast, and ultimately as adults, it helps us to decide what we will and will not accept into our subconscious minds as fact. As adults, we all have the choice to believe or not to believe something that another person tells us.

Kids don’t have the life experience or the capacity to decide what is right and true, therefore whatever their parents, teachers and any other people in authority says to them gets stored in their subconscious mind as a belief. It is during this time that we often develop beliefs about ourselves and the world that do not serve us well in adulthood.

What you believe to be true about yourself and the world creates your reality. If you believe that the world is a friendly place, then you will attract the people and circumstances into your life that will reflect this belief. Likewise, if you believe that people are basically out for themselves and the world is a cold, hard place, then this will be your reality. So it makes sense that we would want to cultivate subconscious beliefs that will serve us well, and get rid of the beliefs that may be causing is to sabotage our own lives.

What are you saying to yourself to stop all of the good things in life coming to you? It's time to recognize your triggers and take steps to address the self-saboteur inside you through hypnotherapy.

Make it easy on yourself....relax and trust that the Universe IS friendly. Claim your share, because if you don't then someone else will!

Write it down

There is something truly powerful about the written word. Writing down the things I want works very well for me – it helps me to solidify in my own mind what my goals are, and it also helps me to distinguish between what I think I want, and what I truly do want.

Sometimes we look at what other people have and automatically assume that because they have it, we must have it too. Be really clear on this. These are your hopes and dreams, not someone else’s. Here’s an example: Let’s say you look out onto the water and you see a big, luxurious yacht…now, who wouldn’t want one of those...right?

Well, not necessarily. It’s true, you might like the essence of what that boat symbolises – such as abundance, prosperity, and generally having enough. But do you actually want the boat itself? What if you’re prone to getting seasick? The point I’m trying to make here is, tune into the essence of what you think that thing you want will give you – and then take steps to bring more of that feeling into your life - always remember, LIKE attracts LIKE!

Don't know where to start? Here are some of the common things people write down when I ask them to do this exercise:

  • A happy family
  • A loving relationship
  • To be Debt Free
  • Financial Security
  • Travel
  • Annual Holidays
  • More time with the family

  • Once you have a general idea, start to break down your desires even more – what exactly is financial security to you? How much money would you like to have in the bank? How much time with the family is 'more time?' One day, one hour, one second? Once you do this, it makes it much easier for the Universe to work with you to bring forth what you want....you CAN have what you want!
